KAJANG: The Automotive Workshop Modernisation Programme (Atom) has achieved Key Performance Indicators (KPI) six months earlier with 53 workshops modernised until today, exceeding the annual target of 50 workshops.

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaacob said RM7.269 million had been approved via government funds of RM10 mlllion this year.

Atom's performance over two consecutive years also gave confidence that the country would have a total of 500 workshops nationwide by 2020.

"The transformation has led to increased the income by up to 30 percent, more customers and sales of spareparts," he told reporters after opening Atom's fourth project, Tuned Auto in Taman Tenaga here today.

Its success would help increase the Gross National Income (GNI) to RM1.1 billion annually and provides over 9,000 job opportunities by 2020.

Atom is a programme under the National Key Economic Areas (NKEA) to modernise and transform the automotive maintenance and repair services.
