Chairman's Column

With its specific mandate focusing on Indian Community, Koperasi Suria Malaysia Berhad (KSMB) plays a key role in providing micro credit and facilitation services in the form of TUKAR and ATOM loan to spearhead the transformation and growth of small and medium sized businesses as per the guidelines drawn by the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK). This transformation programs help the owners to increase their competitiveness through adoption of modern technology and efficient management by streamlining the business processes, enhancing customer service quality and improving their cost effectiveness.

These programmes which is an initiative aspired by the government as part of the overall national Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) has helped the participants to become more efficient in running their businesses and more competitive which contributes directly to an increase in their sales averaging up to 30 percent. Till date, KSMB has successfully transformed 65 TUKAR shops and 22 ATOM workshops all over peninsular Malaysia as per the KPI set by the ministry.

Being a very new cooperative in the market, we did face challenges in championing these programmes and nevertheless these challenges have helped us to improve our effectiveness and efficiencies towards rendering loan and facilitation service to our participants. We have leveraged policies and procedures and maintained best practices to continue our commitment to this noble initiative by the government for our Indian community for the years to come.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my utmost appreciation to all relevant parties including multinational retailers such as AEON Big and Tesco for their support and guidance to transform a dimly lit shop to an attractive and modern retail shop and also other independent consultants and contractors who has helped us to successfully transform automotive workshops. Kudos also to Board Members and Suria team for making this possible with their commitment and dedication to this project.

Thank you
